Review of ‘Breaking Anchor’ by Geonn Cannon

I enjoyed this story and found it an interesting take on the hate turns to love scenario.  Sofia is a news anchor who is still getting over the death of her girlfriend three years earlier.  Her situation is exacerbated by the fact that she is in the closet and no-one knows what she is going through.  Misunderstandings are bound to happen and when caterer Marion inadvertently says the wrong thing it sets Sofia off in a direction she will regret.  Instant dislike ensues and how they get past it is the premise of the story. I could see where Sofia was coming from and why she needed to move on but couldn’t.  She was infuriating at times but understandably so.  I really liked Marion as she was hard-working and dedicated but lonely and needed that special someone in her life.  Would Sofia be that someone? A good novel to while away a few hours in front of the fire.

Review of ‘Conquest – Kai’s Story’ by Kaden Shay

Conquest: Kai's Story

This is the first in ‘The Four Horsemen Series’ by Kaden Shay and it’s a great start. Kai is a General and part of the Regens group who have survived the radiation that killed off a huge swathe of the human population over 200 years ago. They have mutated to different degrees. She is a level four and is long lived, strong and heals easily. She is one of four Generals, all female. They are in constant conflict with the Purists, who proved to be immune to the radiation but remain ‘normal’ humans. Skirmishes between the groups result in a few women and children arriving in Kai’s compound and the introduction into her life of Hayley. The story of their growing relationship is sweet and tender and a strong emotional tie is forged between them. This becomes important to the whole book as the tensions between the generals and between the Regens and Purists really intensify. I really loved this book and found myself totally immersed in the world Kaden Shay has imagined. It is very well written and engaging and I can’t wait for the next one in the series. A well deserved 5 stars.

Review of ‘Beast at the Door’ by Althea Blue

The Beast at the Door

This is a truly delightful story and I enjoyed it so much. There were quite a few surprises and it kept me enthralled. Patience lives at a time when young women were expected to marry well and have no life of their own. Education was basic and opinions were certainly never sought, especially in her family. When her father announced she is to marry someone she can’t stand and has no say in the matter she takes matters into her own hands and then her adventure begins. I thought the book was going in one direction and then the author completely surprised me. I adored Patience and her strength of will. When she meets Ada things become very interesting and the Beast of the title enters. Where it all goes is very interesting and I won’t spoil it by giving anything away. The interaction between the two young women was quite wonderful and I felt myself becoming a part of their world. Althea Blue has a real talent for drawing the reader into her imagination and I look forward to her next book. I was given this ARC free by Supposed Crimes in return for an honest review.

Review of ‘Oblique’ by Adrian J Smith

When Kara moves to Kansas to have her baby alone, she is carrying a lot of secrets in her heart and is certainly not looking for love. Bumping into a gorgeous woman in scrubs when she has a dizzy turn, she can’t imagine that life doesn’t always work out the way you planned. This is a truly beautiful story of two women who slowly find out that they can’t live without each other. Kara’s broken heart is not going to mend anytime soon and her love for
Alyssa keeps her from committing to Tiny(Jaclyn). I so wanted her to be open with Tiny and let her in. I felt sure Tiny would understand. They were so amazingly hot together and their love shone through – even if they couldn’t see it yet! They both had to deal with problems that could ruin it all though. As Kara’s Dr , Tiny was taking an enormous risk with her career and the tension over the situation was palpable. Tiny took too many risks but she was so far gone that Kara only had to speak her name and she was weak at the knees . I loved both of these women and was willing them to make it. A truly engrossing love story that will leave your heart racing .

5 stars!
